Hidden amongst the skyscrapers in the CBD, the MCG, and the banks of the Yarra are the stories of the women who built Australian sport.
Walk from the heart of the city to Australia’s most iconic sporting venue, where women competed, campaigned, and refused to be benched. From suburban football clubs to the world stage, you’ll meet athletes, administrators, rebels, and everyday champions who dared to lace up and change the game around them.
Distance: 2.5km, in 2 hours. Relaxed pace
**Meet your guide:**This tour is run by the incredible Rebecca, a senior player with the Richmond Tigers AFLW team. She believes sport plays an important role in the ongoing journey toward gender equality. In a country where sport is such a central part of the culture, she sees it as a powerful platform for shaping attitudes and behaviours and expanding opportunities for women and girls.
Come ready to see Melbourne’s sporting legacy differently, and to carry these stories with you long after the walk ends. This tour will leave you feeling inspired, fired up, and ready to take the field yourself.
Whether you've kicked a footy, cheered from the stands, or just want to know the full story behind the sports you love — this tour is for you. It feels less like a history lesson and more like being shown around by the most passionate sports fan you've ever met, one who happens to know all the stories that never made the highlight reel.
Whether you're coming solo, with teammates, or making a day of it before a game, pull on your walking shoes and get ready to see Melbourne differently.
