We start with a guided nature connection walk to slow down, shift your attention and notice the small details of the world around you.
Nature and forest therapy guide, Sarah Murray will invite you to explore the colours, shapes, textures of the natural environment, taking time to observe and reflect.
Then bring those observations back inside as inspiration for a hands-on nature art session.
Local artist Gabrielle McKinnon will introduce you to gelatine printing techniques using a combination of collected and provided natural materials.
Experiment with leaves, grasses, flowers and other textures to create layered prints, playing with colour, shape, pattern and the unexpected marks that emerge through the process.
No previous art experience is needed.
This is an opportunity to explore, experiment and see familiar natural materials in a different way — there’s no pressure to create a perfect print.
Sarah Murray-Boyd is a Canberra based nature and forest therapy guide and outdoor activity facilitator, and founder of Latitude 55 Outdoors. Sarah is passionate about the power of time in nature to heal, connect, teach and guide us, but she is not an artist. Her first nature journal entry was a stick figure: https://sarahmurrayboyd.substack.com/p/nature-journalling-for-non-artists
Gabrielle McKinnon is a talented local artist and nature photographer. She works with a range of printing techniques including collographs, lino cut and gelitine plates., as well as pen and ink and watercolours. She has hosted workshops for both adults and children as part of the National Folk Festival creative arts program, and has a You Tube channel sharing practical printing techniques for beginners: Geli printing with Gabrielle
