Welcome to the new epyic, rebuilt with love.
Explore the ancient heart of Gariwerd. Join an expert local guide for a six-hour journey into the Grampians' rich cultural and natural landscape. This immersive small-group tour features visits to three heritage-listed Rock Art sites, where you'll learn about these 20,000+ year-old paintings. Between these ancient sites, experience the park's most breathtaking icons: the thundering waters of MacKenzie Falls and the vast, panoramic vistas of Reed Lookout. Complete with a light morning tea and gourmet lunch, this tour offers a deep, unhurried connection to the history and beauty of this spectacular National Park.
09:00 AM | Departure: Halls Gap Information Centre Meet your local guide and depart the village. We begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of the landscape and learning its traditional name, Gariwerd, and a brief overview of its extensive history.
09:30 AM | Bunjil's Shelter (The Creator) Our first stop is one of the most significant cultural sites in Australia. A short, gentle walk leads to the only known rock art painting of Bunjil, the ancestral creator, depicted with his two dingo protectors.
10:45 AM | Gulgurn Manja (Hands of Young People) We travel north to the edge of the ranges. A scenic walk through rocky outcrops brings us to Gulgurn Manja. Here, you'll see ancient handprints of children and emu tracks, offering a touching connection to the generations of families who lived here.
12:00 PM | Bush-Side Lunch & Morning Tea Enjoy a relaxed light lunch and morning tea (included) surrounded by the sounds of the bush. Your guide will share more insights into the region's unique flora and fauna during the break.
01:00 PM | Ngamadjidj (The Cave of Ghosts) We visit the "Cave of Ghosts," famous for its rare white-clay paintings. Unlike the red ochre found elsewhere, these striking white figures provide a mysterious and powerful insight into the spiritual life of the Jardwadjali people.
01:45 PM | MacKenzie Falls (Migunang Wirab) We transition to the park's dramatic water features. Experience the power of MacKenzie Falls, where water tumbles over massive cliffs into a deep pool below. Your guide will lead you to the best vantage points for photos of this iconic site.
02:45 PM | Reed's Lookout (Panoramic Vistas) Our final stop offers the "grand reveal." Stand atop Reed Lookout for breathtaking, panoramic views across the Victoria Valley and the jagged Serra Range. It's the perfect place to reflect on the day's journey across the landscape.
03:30 PM | Arrival: Halls Gap We return to the Information Centre, leaving you with a better understanding of the complex tapestry that makes up the Grampians/Gariwerd landscape.
