Welcome to the new epyic, rebuilt with love.
The PADI Advanced Open Water course is designed to build on the knowledge and skills acquired in the Open Water course. You don’t have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification.
The course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. It allows you to explore special diving interests and gain experience, under the control and guidance of one of our professional instructors. You will complete a Deep dive which qualifies you to dive to 30m upon successful completion of the Advanced Open Water course, a Navigation dive and 3 other specialty dives (a total of 5 dives).
There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and another three dives which are chosen from the following options – Wreck, Drift, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Night, Underwater Naturalist, Fish ID. The time of year, and boat scheduling, will determine what dives we can run, the instructor will discuss the dive choices with you, or you will be notified upon booking in for the course. During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives, to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time. The other knowledge and skills you get vary depending on which specialty dives you complete – you may gain experience with photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, exploring wrecks etc.
Thursday – 6pm-8:30pm – Course orientation, paperwork, and equipment fitting at the shop. Saturday – all day – 3 shore/pier dives, either locally at Brighton or down the peninsula at Rye Pier – weather determines dive site location, all day commitment. Sunday – all day – 2 boat dives from Portsea, all day commitment. There is also the option to complete a Night dive as one of the dives for the course. If the class decide to do a night dive, this dive is usually conducted mid-week, with only 2 shore dives on the Saturday. Due to changes in tides and weather, dive sites, boat schedule and times may vary from course to course.
