Join Melbourne Adventure Club for a rugged loop through Lerderderg State Park, following the river before climbing up into the gorge and surrounding bushland.
This is not a flat Sunday stroll. Expect steep climbs and descents, rocky and uneven terrain, river crossings and some proper bushwalking — with beautiful gorge scenery and that remote feeling Lerderderg does so well.
🥾 Approx. 8 km loop ⛰️ Hard / experienced hikers 📍 Lerderderg State Park 🚗 Start + finish: Mackenzies Flat Picnic Area ⏱ Allow approximately 3–4 hours at our group pace
We’ll begin beside the Lerderderg River, head towards Graham’s Dam, then tackle the steeper Link Tracks and ridge sections before looping back to Mackenzies Flat. This hike is best suited to people with a reasonable level of fitness and some bushwalking experience. You’ll need to be comfortable on steep, rocky and uneven trails.
• Minimum 2L water • Snacks • Good hiking shoes with grip • Hat + sunscreen • Layers for changing conditions • Small backpack • A sense of adventure
There is no drinking water available at the trailhead, so please arrive prepared.
Come solo — you absolutely do not need to know anyone beforehand. We’ll hike as a group, keep an eye on each other and take breaks along the way. 🌿 Fresh air 🥾 A proper challenge 👋 New people ⛰️ A few hours somewhere that feels much further from Melbourne than it really is
