During this unforgettable walking experience, you will explore three of the most spectacular locations within the Scenic Rim, including Main Range National Park, Moogerah Peaks National Park, and the impressive Mount Barney. Each day offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the region’s diverse landscapes, featuring breathtaking mountain ridges, lush rainforests, and ancient volcanic plateaus that showcase the stunning scenery this area is known for.
TRAIL NOTES: 4 hours walk. 12kms return. Moderate. Medium. Elevation 426m.
TERRAIN: Rocky sections with plenty of obstacles. There are inclines along the track. Some of these are made easier with the presence of well-constructed stone stairs.
WALK ITINERARY: Meet your guides in the hotel foyer of the Mercure Brisbane King George Square at 7.45am before setting out on our adventure or alternatively drive and meet us enroute. Today the first of the regions we visit in the stunning Scenic Rim is the spectacular Mount Barney National Park. Today’s walk features magnificent scenery everywhere and you will be entranced by the bushland, crystal clear rock pools and pretty waterfalls of this area. We will visit the stunning Cronan Creek Falls on Yellow Pinch trail. Afterwards, we head to our accommodation at the Boonah Valley Cabins located in the heart of the Scenic Rim. Enjoy a superb meal featuring local produce and regional wines at the restaurant.
TRAIL NOTES: 4-5 hours walking with breaks. 12.4kms. Grade: Medium Grade
TERRAIN: Well formed trail. It is a sustained, zig-zagging ascent and consequently a steady, steep descent. There’s a few steps and some rocky, bouldery sections but nothing overly challenging. There are good views at the top but a couple of steep drop-offs near the summit, which give a feeling of exposure.
WALK ITINERARY: This morning we enjoy a breakfast before heading out for our days adventure. We walk today in the north of Cunninghams Gap in the Main Range National Park. This walk has exceptional views of the Moogerah Peaks, Mt Barney and North to the Mistake Mountains, perfect for photo opportunities! Our walk starts through the stunning rainforest with moss-draped ancient trees, boulders, lush ferns and tiny outcrops of bright orange fungus. Look out for lyrebirds, lizards and fauna along the way. This part of the National Park has been included in the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Once at the summit you’ll be rewarded with a bird’s eye view of the rugged landscape, here we will stop for lunch while soaking up the stunning views of Main Range National Park. For those who want an extra challenge, we will take an additional side trip to amazing Bare Rock which looks out over the fertile valleys of Tarome. Afterwards, we return to Boonah Valley Cabins for a wonderful dinner perfectly matched with regional wines.
TRAIL NOTES: 4 hours with break. 8.1km. Grade: Medium
TERRAIN: Well formed trail. It is a sustained, zig-zagging ascent and consequently a steady, steep descent. There’s a few steps and some rocky, bouldery sections but nothing overly challenging.
WALK ITINERARY: Enjoy an early breakfast, featuring homegrown and local produce before we farewell our accommodation and head out for our last walking adventure. Today we head to Mt Mathieson, Main Range to take in the views of Cunninghams Gap from the natural lookouts along this rough trail through lofty eucalypts and lush rainforest. From the Pioneer picnic area the first part of the trail, to Mount Mathieson, is a gentle grade. From there the trail is more rugged and you’ll need to tackle quite steep, rocky and narrow sections. As you walk through the rainforest keep an eye out for the timber jinker (wagon), a relic from the early timber-cutting years. Learn about the early pioneering years from informative signs along the trail. This park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, famed for its ongoing geological processes, evolutionary history, and diversity (especially of rare, threatened and endemic species). We finish our walk with a special celebratory lunch and wine tasting at a local vineyard. A special way to finish your walk. Afterwards, we return to Brisbane at the end of a fabulous walking adventure approximately 5.00pm.
