Just outside the Port Phillip Heads on the Point Nepean side is especially popular for catching crayfish. Located among scattered offshore reefs off the back beaches of the Mornington Peninsula in Bass Strait, depths range from 12 to 30 metres.
Marine life here is abundant, with crayfish, Blue Devils, Weedy Seadragons, seals, abalone, and many other species regularly encountered.
The reef's soft calcium formations have been shaped by erosion into a maze of swim-throughs, valleys, and overhangs, lightly covered with kelp. These underwater features create a dramatic and diverse environment, an outstanding site for exploration and a favourite among underwater photographers.
