Captain Nitro Drop Off (also known as The Drop-Off) is an advanced dive site located at the western end of Spec Reef. It features a series of dramatic walls that descend in 5 to 10-metre steps, reaching depths of over 60 metres.
Scattered throughout the site are massive boulders, believed to have been deposited by the ancient Yarra River. In the midwater, divers often spot large fish migrating into Port Phillip, and with a bit of luck, seals and dolphins may make an appearance.
Keep an eye out for impressive marine life, including large Crayfish and the striking Red and Blue Morwong—an uncommon sight in Victorian waters.
A Fantastic Dropoff in the heads aligned with the South Channel. It is Subject to shipping, but if there is shipping scheduled, we always do another awesome dive anyway.
Divers have the opportunity to catch Crayfish (Southern Rock Lobster) here - just remember your fishing licence and check that you are abiding by all current fishing regulations if you intend to do this. Note that plastic tags have been replaced by digital tags, so a digital tag and catch details must be reported via the GoFishVic app.
